Lethbridge County Welcomes Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge County played host to a delegation on Friday, September 9, from the Honourary Consulate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Calgary, providing the guests with a tour of the area and some local businesses.
Important guests included Irene Bakker, Honorary Consul of the Netherlands in South Alberta, and Ton Akkermans, Agricultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Washington, D.C.
Akkermans said that he has enjoyed his stops in Southern Alberta so far because of its focus on food processing and investment into greenhouses.
“The Netherlands is a very small country with a lot of people and a lot of animals. We have lack of space and Canada has more than enough space so Dutch people can immigrate and set up farms.”
