School District 51 Wants Public’s Input On Future

LETHBRIDGE:  Roughly 200 community representatives from around Lethbridge are expected to attend an annual Town Hall meeting on February 2nd, as the School District seeks information for the Board of Trustees.

Superintendent, Cheryl Gilmore, says it’s important for the district to learn how technology and diverse social contexts play a role in contemporary learning.

Feedback from the public will be gathered from the meeting and the district’s website. It’ll then be condensed into a statement that the board will take to their spring retreat, and later be released to the public.

The statement will become the district’s new vision and mission.

“One key question that will be put to the participants is, what will Lethbridge School District 51 look like when we have it right with meeting the needs of our students in a contemporary world?” Gilmore explained. “Then what do we need to be doing right now, and each and every day to achieve that vision.”

Following a spring retreat, Gilmore added that they hope to have a plan rolled out by the end of this school year.

The Town Hall meeting takes place February 2nd, from 6:30 to 9:00 at Victoria Park High School (1515 – 5th Avenue South).

Parents and other members of the public are encouraged to attend. However, the District needs you to RSVP your attendance by Wednesday, January 20th, so they know how many people to plan for.
