Calgary Lawyer Joins Leadership Race for PC Alberta Party

ALBERTA – A Calgary lawyer has joined the race to become the next leader of the Progressive Conservative Alberta party.

Byron Nelson made the announcement Tuesday morning (Sept. 27).

“The PC party has a strong history, and an equally strong membership,” stated Nelson. “I’m running for leader because I want to see us focus on restoring Alberta to the place of opportunity that it once was. The PCs must continue to work together to restore the strength of Alberta.”

Nelson has been active in the part for more than 25-years and was the PC candidate in Calgary-Bow in 2015.

The PC Alberta Leadership Race 2017 officially kicks-off in Lethbridge on Saturday (Oct. 1) at the Coast Lethbridge Hotel & Conference Centre. Potential leadership candidates – including Nelson, Jason Kenney and Donna Kennedy-Glans – will be on hand to meet party members.

The party sees the leadership race as an opportunity to attract more young members, as the 87 constituency associations will be able to elect at least three youth delegates to send to the leadership convention.
