Nov 13, 2016 | 6:33 AM

SOUTH ZONE – National Addictions Awareness Week (Nov. 13 to Nov. 19) is set to highlight the dangers of substance abuse across Alberta.

It’s an initiative by Alberta Health Services (AHS) to reduce risk factors, while also promoting protective factors. As part of the event, AHS has developed a new online toolkit that includes tips for building healthy relationships and positive behaviour for individuals, parents, communities, families, school and workplaces.

Those struggling with addiction are also encouraged to contact Health Link at 811, or the Addiction Helpline at 1-866-332-2322 for more information and assistance.

AHS will also host the following family-friendly education activities in both Lethbridge and Medicine Hat:

Lethbridge

– Fun and games night at the Boys and Girls Club, Nov. 15 from 7:00-pm to 9:30-pm
– Displays at Lethbridge College, Nov. 15 all day
– Free family skate at Nicholas Sheran Arena, Nov. 17 from 6:30-pm to 7:30-pm

Medicine Hat

– Free family skate at the Kinplex, Nov. 15 from 5:30-pm to 7:00-pm
