Emergency text message service now available in Lethbridge

Dec 1, 2016 | 1:47 PM

LETHBRIDGE – A new Text with 9-1-1 feature is now available in coordination with the City of Lethbridge Public Safety Communications Centre (PSCC) and local emergency services.

It’s meant for those in Lethbridge and surrounding areas that are deaf, hard of hearing or speech-impaired.

During an emergency, those people can call 9-1-1, and a special application sends an indicator to the call taker that the caller is part of the DHHSI community. The two can then communicate over text to deal with the emergency.

The PSCC is the primary public safety answering point for Lethbridge and surrounding regions.

Those wishing to use the service must register with their wireless service provider. For more information on how to do so, visit www.textwith911.ca.
