Still no progress for accused in violent sexual assault

Feb 14, 2017 | 9:28 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Another adjournment has been granted to 20-year old Denzel Dre Colton Bird, the man accused in a violent sexual assault last September.

While the Crown had stated at the last court appearance that they would like to see some progress, Bird’s lawyer explained Tuesday morning (Feb. 14) that he hadn’t been able to fully review the disclosure in the case with his client, due to an injury that prevented him from visiting the Lethbridge Correctional Centre.

Bird faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, and break and enter.

Police say the 25-year-old victim was walking to work when she was struck with a weapon, dragged into the alley off 6 Avenue South and sexually assaulted on the morning of September 30, 2016. They noted that the victim and the accused do not know each other and it is believed to have been random attack.
