Expanded Children’s Family Festival in Lethbridge promises fun for the whole family

Mar 28, 2017 | 12:17 PM

LETHBRIDGE –  There will be something for Mom and Dad (and the grandparents), something for the older teens and of course the younger children, at this year’s Children’s Family Festival at Lethbridge’s Exhibition Park.

Marketing Manager Doug Kryzanowski says after the cancellation of the Family Festival on New Year’s Eve, they promised people that they would make it up in May, and make the 2017 Children’s Festival better.

“We feel we’ve done that. We’ve got new entertainment, strengthened it to two days. It gives the public two days to come… So we’ve tried to do everything to enhance this program.”

Kryzanowski is hoping with the added attractions like a “meet and greet” with Iron Man, Spider Man, Bob the Builder and the Paw Patrol, along with stunt bike demonstrations, virtual reality games, a trade show and other events –  that they get at least 7,000 people through the gates each day.

Ticket prices are slightly higher overall this year. While last year, admission for children under 6 years of age was free, and those ages 6-12 were charged $3, this year the fee structure has changed.

“If you look through the programming off our website, we’ve got something for Mom and Dad, we’ve got something for the teens, and we’ve got something for the very young,” explains Kryzanowski. “We felt it was necessary to charge a fee for that. $5 isn’t a huge price to pay for basically two days of activity for coming in. You can spend all day here.”

Admission for children under the age of 3 is free, while everyone else pays $5. Parking is free, and tickets are only available at the gate.

The festival takes place May 5th from 3 pm to 8 pm, and May 6th from 9 am until 4 pm.
