Information sessions regarding Lexin Resources insolvency

Jun 22, 2017 | 6:34 PM

CALGARY –  The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) will be hosting information sessions on the insolvency of Lexin Resources and the environmental non-compliances of the company.

The global downturn in the oil and gas industry and other factors, have resulted in Lexin being unable to obtain sufficient capital to operate its normal business and has laid off most of its staff.

Lexin is an AER licensee that currently holds 1662 operational licences (1380 wells, 81 facilities, and 201 pipelines) and licences for 134 abandoned wells, 5 abandoned facilities, and 6 abandoned pipelines.

An agreed statement of facts, supplied by AER, indicates Lexin has not complied with closure and abandonment orders, including expired surface rights, which may impact farm land.

However, Michael J. Smith, the director of Lexin, and the Aer have agreed to work together to resolve all outstanding matters.

Information sessions for those impacted will have the Surface Rights Board, Orphan Well Association, and the Farmers’ Advocate Office available to answer questions.

The AER Sessions are slated for the Vulcan Lodge Hall on Tuesday, June 27 and in Cayley, at the Oddfellows Hall, on Wednesday, June 28.  Both sessions run from 7-9 p.m.
