Taber police called to deal with sword wielding man

Sep 20, 2017 | 2:07 PM

TABER –    It isn’t uncommon for Police officers to be confronted by dangerous situations and that was the case Wednesday (Sept 20)  morning in Taber.

Around 11:30, Taber police were sent to a home in the town to deal with a man armed with a sword.

The man was acting irrationally and there was potential for risk to himself or others.

Taber officers were able to de-escalate the situation and get medical attention for the man.  No charges are pending.

According to Police Chief Graham Abela, they are well equipped to deal with these types of situations.

“Police respond to all types of emergencies and the Taber Police have excellent equipment, and the ability through their training to critically think and de-escalate volatile situations where appropriate. This is an excellent example of a positive outcome from a situation that could have been much worse.”
