Growth, diversification priorities for council candidate Germsheid

LETHBRIDGE – “Servant-based leadership” is what Clint Germsheid hopes to accomplish.

The mechanic is seeking a seat on Lethbridge city council. In an interview he said he felt compelled to put his name in.

“I believe that people in the city need somebody to listen to them and act upon their wishes, just everyday people,” Germsheid said. Population and business growth, including the west side and downtown, would be priorities for him.

He said with the decline in oil, it’s an opportunity to diversify Alberta’s economy.

“For example, we’ve got a location that’s actually close to any kind of environment you want to look at in Alberta, from mountains to prairies to deserts so we can attract things such as the movie industry,” he said. “Arts is very strong in Lethbridge. I think we can develop that and become a stronghold for arts in western Canada.”

A father of four, Germsheid is involved in cheerleading, a member of the Kinsmen, and is active in his church including missions to Mexico to help an orphanage there.

Voters will choose the next city council Oct. 16.
