LETHBRIDGE – When Kevin Mark Layton first got involved in local politics, it was over basic improvements like more accessible sidewalks and roads.

But in the years since, Layton has learned some issues haven’t changed. He’s seeking a seat on Lethbridge City Council promising to listen to people.

“I tell everybody that their issues are my issues,” he said in an interview, citing taxes as one matter people raise, as well as councillors who flip-flop on their position.

“I realize it more now than ever that when I ran 15-plus years ago the issues still haven’t changed, and the problems still haven’t changed.”

Layton’s background is in the non-profit sector, including work with People First Society of Alberta South Chapter and the South Region Self Advocacy Network, and has also canvassed door-to-door. He’s lived in Lethbridge since 1982.

His platform calls for a “safe, friendly, family based city that is affordable, accessible, that accommodates all and is useable by every citizen of this awesome city called Lethbridge.”

Voters will cast their ballots Oct. 16.
