JV and 4A high school basketball playoffs underway

LETHBRIDGE – High school basketball playoffs are in full swing in Lethbridge and around Southern Alberta.

The JV Playoffs and 4A Zones are hosted by the Southern Alberta Interscholastic Administrative Council, and play has already gotten underway.

JV Girls

Results from the quarterfinals on Monday, Mar. 5:

Raymond 78 Magrath 74 at Magrath

Cardston 61 Catholic Central 56 at Cardston

Medicine Hat 71 W.R. Myers 60 at Medicine Hat

LCI 86 Winston Churchill 31 at LCI

Results from the semifinals on Tuesday, Mar. 6:

Cardston 60 Raymond 57 at Cardston

LCI 87 Medicine Hat 51 at LCI

The finals will see #1 ranked LCI taking on #3 ranked Cardston in the University of Lethbridge 1st Choice Savings Centre on Saturday, Mar. 10 beginning at 10 a.m.

JV Boys

Results from the quarterfinals on Monday, Mar. 5:

LCI 90 Medicine Hat 64 at LCI

Chinook 76 Winston Churchill 60 at Chinook

Raymond 84 Magrath 64 at Raymond

Cardston 92 Catholic Central 54 at Cardston

Results from the semifinals on Tuesday, Mar. 6:

LCI 103 Chinook 71 at LCI

Cardston 82 Raymond 51 at Cardston

The finals will see #1 ranked Cardston taking on #2 ranked LCI, also at the University of Lethbridge, on Saturday, Mar. 10 beginning at 12 p.m.

4A Girls

Three Provincials berths are at stake, in addition to Medicine Hat High who will be hosting Provincials Mar. 15-17.

The quarterfinals get underway Wednesday, Mar.7:

Chinook (7) at LCI (2) 6 p.m.

Catholic Central (6) at Magrath (3) 6 p.m.

Medicine Hat (5) at Cardston (4) 6 p.m.

Raymond (1) has a bye

The rest of the playoffs for the 4A girls will be taking place at the University of Lethbridge between Thursday, Mar. 8 and Saturday, Mar. 10.

4A Boys

Three Provincials berths are also at stake, in addition to Medicine Hat High, with the quarterfinals also getting underway tonight:

Winston Churchill (7) at Cardston (2) 8 p.m.

Medicine Hat (6) at LCI (3) 8 p.m.

Catholic Central (5) at Raymond (4) 7 p.m.

Chinook (8) at Magrath (1) 8 p.m.

The remainder of the playoff field for the boys will also be played at the University of Lethbridge Thursday through to Saturday.

Dave Wells, SAIAC Activities Coordinator, says a cooperative effort between Cardston, Magrath and LCI, coordinated by Paul Sloan at Cardston will webcast all 17 games from the U of L this year free of charge.
