Apr 23, 2018 | 5:30 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Robert E. Wanner, will be travelling to the southwestern corner of the province with the Legislature Mace from April 23 to 26.

Speaker Wanner will have opportunities for local conversations with residents of all ages about active citizenship, parliamentary democracy and the role of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

On Monday, April 23, Wanner will be in Lethbridge at the Galt Museum between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. for an Open House.

During his tour of the region, the Speaker will present the Legislature Mace at a number of schools in Lethbridge and the surrounding area.

Wanner says many Albertans living outside of the capital region have never had the chance to visit and experience the Legislature for themselves.

“It is a priority of mine to reach out to Albertans across the province and inspire active citizenship by bringing the heart of democracy right to their hometowns.”

After this trip to southwestern Alberta, Speaker Wanner’s Outreach will have brought the Legislature Mace to communities in all four corners of the province, including Fort McMurray, High Level, Medicine Hat and now Lethbridge.

The Mace is a symbol of the Legislative Assembly’s authority to make laws and is carried into the Chamber each day that the Assembly meets.
