LETHBRIDGE, AB– Lethbridge was considered one of the COVID-19 hotspots after yesterday’s announcement from Premier Jason Kenney targetting certain areas with over 300 active cases.

Lockdown measures have been put in place and affect Junior high and high schools, those students will be moving to an online format.

As well, all indoor recreational activities will be prohibited for the next two weeks.

Cities with over 1000 active cases, per 100,000 residents could potentially be given curfews to ensure cases stay down.

Lethbridge Mayor, Chris Spearman, says the city won’t be implementing any extra measures, as the province’s current restrictions should be enough to bring numbers down.

“We’re in new territory in the last few months and with the spread of the variants we have to do everything we possibly can, but we aren’t contemplating having curfews at this time.”

The Mayor is asking residents and businesses to do their part by following health orders and protocols as it’s critical in getting things back to normal sooner.
