LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge (U of L) has gotten spookier.

In recognition of Halloween, Lethbridge councillor and historian Belinda Crowson put together a collection of recordings of ghost stories and brought them to the U of L on October 31, 2023.

The Ghost Stories of Lethbridge digital collection has been in the works since the beginning of the year, and includes 19 audio recordings.

Crowson said, “I’m hoping people can turn it on, sit in the dark and be creeped out by all of the ghost stories.”

Crowson, who also serves as president of the Lethbridge Historical Society, added that while she was approached to do the project at the beginning of the year, she has been looking to do something like the U of L event for a while.

“I’ve been talking about doing this for a very long time, and ghost stories are really meant to be told. I can’t get to every school or every house to tell the ghost stories so this is the second best thing, you kind of get them whenever you want.”

The Ghost Stories of Lethbridge digital collection, which includes stories like Haunted Farm House, St. Patrick’s Cemetery, and The Ghost of the Union Train Station, will be put into the U of L’s library collection for students to listen to.

Crowson added, “It’s a way of understanding Lethbridge and our folk tales and stories a little bit more.”
