Skate Canada Reports High Attendance and Profit from 2015 Competition

LETHBRIDGE – The Skate Canada International event hosted in Lethbridge last fall had more support than organizers anticipated.

More than 16,000 tickets were sold for the four day event, which featured 56 top skaters from 11 countries.

Jaci Zalesak, Volunteer Recruitment Director, says profits came in at nearly $365,000, due to high attendance and generous community sponsors. Those funds were re-invested for program development and athlete support, being distributed to the Alberta section office, Lethbridge Skating Club, Lethbridge Sport Council and Chinook Country Tourist Association.

“The Enmax Centre is top notch, and Skate Canada themselves loved it. If they could pick it up and take it to their next event, they would,” stated Zalesak, noting that there was nothing but positive comments from athletes and spectators.

Lethbridge hosted Skate Canada one other time about 25 years ago, and Zalesak says it could come back again in the future.
