UPDATE: MD of Taber announces road closures as flood mitigation continues

Mar 27, 2018 | 7:23 AM

TABER – Several road closures have been announced by the Municipal District of Taber as crews continue their efforts to mitigate flooding from overland drainage.

A mild chinook kept temperatures warm Monday night, March 26. That prompted concerns earlier in the day that the flooding would get worse. A state of local emergency remains in effect indefinitely.

Workers will be back on the job Tuesday morning, the M.D. said. Emphasis remains on protecting homes and infrastructure, and landowners are asked not to make things worse by pumping or excavating.

Municipal road crews are also working to keep gravel roads passable while they thaw, by grading and graveling. However, due to flooding and erosion the M.D. announced the following roads are closed:

  • Range Road 15-3 between Township Roads 10-0 and 9-2
  • Township Road 9-2 between Range Roads 19-0 and 18-2
  • Range Road 18-3 from Highway 3 to Township Road 10-0
  • Range Road 17-2 north of Township Road 10-0

More road closures were expected as flows increase.
