LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Airport is among three in Alberta receiving federal funding to improve their safety services.

Speaking on behalf of Transport Minister Marc Garneau, Natural Resources Minister Amarjeet Sohi revealed more than $6-Million in funding from Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program Monday, July 23.

Lethbridge will receive $98,000 to purchase a de-icer that will help in the process of applying sand to runways, taxiways, and aprons to clear snow and melt ice.

“The High Level, Lethbridge and Red Deer Airports are important hubs for residents and businesses in the region,” said Sohi in a media release. “This investment will help ensure continued safe operations for passengers, flight crews, and employees who rely on these airports to support the regional economy and its social development.”

The bulk of the money will go to the High Level Airport, which is receiving over $5.7-Million for rehabilitation of a runway and two taxiways.

The Red Deer Airport is getting $271,450 for a loader that can pull snow removal or de-icing equipment.
