BLOOD RESERVE – A 17-year-old has been taken into custody following an investigation by Blood Tribe Police into a potential threat to Kainai High School.

According to police, they received the information on Sunday, Oct.14, 2018. As a result, the Kainai Board of Education decided to close Kainai High School and Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School on Monday.

A subsequent investigation determined the threat was not credible, however, police say there was sufficient evidence to proceed with Public Mischief charges pursuant to section 149 of the Criminal Code.

Blood Tribe Police will not be releasing the person’s name due to their age in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Kainai High School and Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School will be returning to normal Tuesday, Oct. 16. Supports will be available as needed for both students and staff.

In a statement, the Kainai Board of Education say they have taken this threat very seriously and will continue to monitor risk factors with all of the individuals involved.
