CALGARY — It was a high-scoring and penalty-filled game in Calgary Friday (Oct 26) night.  The heaviest portion of the penalties – 27 minutes – fell on the Hitmen.

The first action on Calgary ice was a hooking call against the Canes’ Noah Boyko at 4:18.  Three minutes later, a flurry of sticks and skates in the Canes’ crease appeared to result in a goal and the action sent officials to short conference.  The outcome was a first goal for the Hitmen, courtesy of Kaden Elder.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to tie the game and then move ahead.  At 12:12, Keltie Jeri-Leon landed his fourth of the season and tied the score off an assist from Jackson Shepard and Jadon Joseph. Four minutes later, Logan Barlage was on his own in the neutral zone but able to lob the puck through the Hitmen pipes, giving the Canes a 2-1 lead.

Just 90 seconds before the buzzer, Calgary’s Ryder Korczak tied the game 2-2. The period ended with the Hitmen leading shots-on-goal 10-8.

The first half of the second frame belonged to the Hurricanes as they laid down three goals at two minute intervals.  It began with Calen Addison, taking advantage of a power-play and assists by Jordy Bellerive and Dylan Cozens.

Jordy Bellerive was on the net next with his eighth goal of the season, followed the second goal of the game for Keltie Jeri-Leon off another power-play.

Less than seven minutes in, the Canes were up 5-2 but, the Hitmen got a second wind. At 12:37, Ryder Korczak found the back of the Canes’ net and one minute later Mark Kastelic tallied his eleventh of the season with a short-handed goal. The action cut Lethbridge’s lead to 5-4.

The scoring opportunities continued during the final period.  Calgary’s Mark Kastelic tallied his second goal of the game at 6:29.  A minute later, the Canes’ Jadon Joseph also logged his second of the game and the score was 6-5 for Lethbridge.

Spreading out the action, Calgary again tied the game at the mid-way point. A short while later, the Canes’ Zachary Cox landed his third goal of the season, assisted by Logan Barlage and Igor Merezhko, making it a 7-6 game for Lethbridge.

However, the action continued at 14:18 with a spate of penalties –  two minute minors to Calen Addison and Cael Zimmerman for roughing, while Calgary’s Josh Prokop landed a five-minute major for spearing and a game misconduct.

The game concludes with the Canes’ 7-6 win.  Lethbridge has three wins in a row and 17-points, to sit at 7-4-1-2 on the season, for second place in the Central division.

The Canes travel north up Highway-2 for a Sunday, 4:00-pm game in Edmonton.
