LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team celebrated a historic season at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) awards banquet Wednesday night.

The team’s 22-2 record on the season was the best in the program’s history and secured them a first-place finish in the ACAC south division.

Head coach Greg Gibos was named the south division coach of the year. This season marked his third year as the bench leader for the Kodiaks.

According to a release from the college, Gibos has been selected as the ACAC representative to move forward for CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) coach of the year consideration.

“When I hired Greg he displayed a level of enthusiasm to not just coach at the collegiate level but commit to grow the game of volleyball in southern Alberta” said Todd Caughlin, Lethbridge College Athletics manager, in the release.

“The commitment and dedication that Greg brings every day to his student athletes, the program and the college is incredible, and he has done the work to earn this recognition. He has built a program that has been long overdue at Lethbridge College and with the type of student-athletes he has constructed it with – it’s an incredible accomplishment.”

Four Kodiaks – Carter Hansen, Michael Hummel, Matt Primrose and Dax Whitehead, were named to the ACAC south all-conference team.

Hansen finished second in the ACAC for kills and was named to the south all-conference team for the first time in his four-year career with the Kodiaks.

Whitehead was named an all-star for the third straight year. This season, he became the all-time ACAC and CCAA leader in kills.

Primrose is an all-star for the second straight season. He finished sixth in the conference in digs. Hummel finished sixth in the conference in blocks and is an all-star for the first time.

The Kodiaks open this week’s ACAC championship Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6:00 p.m. against The King’s University Eagles in Edmonton.
