South Zone sees 16 new COVID cases over the weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its report for COVID-19 for Monday, July 6.

There were no COVID-19 updates over the weekend so the numbers in this story reflect caseloads over the last three days.

130 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 8,389. Of those, 607 cases are still active and 7,627 people have recovered.

This includes 16 infections in the South Health Zone, some of which entail three cases in Lethbridge and four in the M.D. of Taber.

No new deaths have been confirmed anywhere in Alberta as a result of the virus, leaving the total at 155.

57 Albertans remain hospitalized due to COVID-19 as well as six who have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

To date, 487,915 tests have been completed.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 5,440 cases, 228 active
    • 112 deaths
    • 184,193 tests
  • South zone – 1,373 cases, 84 active
    • 11 deaths
    • 31,029 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 1,128 cases, 234 active
    • 15 deaths
    • 137,707 tests
  • North zone – 338 cases, 53 active
    • 16 deaths
    • 34,197 tests
  • Central zone – 93 cases, four active
    • One death
    • 31,778 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,119 cases, one active, nine deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 49 cases (three new), 10 active, one death
  • Lethbridge – 46 cases (three new), 10 active
    • West Lethbridge – 20 cases, five active
    • South Lethbridge – 16 cases (two new), two active
    • North Lethbridge – 10 cases (one new), three active
  • Cardston County – 43 cases (one new), three active, one death
  • County of Warner – 41 cases (two new), 41 active
  • Cypress County – 29 cases (one new), eight active
  • County of Newell – 20 cases, zero active
  • M.D. of Taber – 12 cases (four new), nine active
  • Fort Macleod – Seven cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Four cases (two new), two active
  • Lethbridge County – Three cases, zero active
