Lethbridge, AB – With a promising weather forecast, organizers of this year’s Canada Day activities are excitedly counting the days until Henderson Park and Galt Gardens are filled with thousands of people and free activities for people of all ages and interests.

Henderson Lake area will, once again, be the showcase for Pattison Broadcasting stage performances of live music and dance troupes; the Joanne Feist Kid Zone; demonstrations and activities by local organizations; and a full vendor area where people can purchase food and beverages throughout the day. Some of the new performers this year include a Columbian dance group and Jambaldorj Batbayar, who will provide a unique vocal performance through throat singing during the official ceremonies that begin at 4 p.m.

The SLP Canada Day Jam at SLP Skate Park is in its third year. This event, hosted by SLP Industries, will feature a bike contest from noon-2 p.m., a Scooter Jam from 2-3 p.m., and skateboard competitions for all ages and abilities from 3-5 p.m.  Prizes will be handed out throughout the day and everyone is welcome to jam, compete and watch.

Galt Gardens will offer an alternative to the Henderson Lake activities with the continuation of the very successful electronic music party from noon – 5 p.m., organized by BassWorks Entertainment.  DJ’s will be on hand playing music to listen and dance to. The event also includes bouncy huts, bumper balls, a concession, and an inflatable obstacle course.

Westminster Public Outdoor Pool will be hosting special admission prices with a toonie swim from noon to 7 p.m. and some organizations, such as SAAG, will be waiving admission fees in celebration of the holiday. Special events will also take place at Spitz Stadium, Fort Whoop-Up, the Galt Museum and Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden.

A free shuttle will be running from Henderson Lake to downtown and back as well as pickups and drop offs across the city for the evening fireworks. A full shuttle schedule is available on the City’s website at www.lethbridge.ca/shuttleschedule .

Parkside Drive will be closed from Mayor Magrath to Exhibition Park so drivers will have to use alternate roadways in the area.

Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. and can be viewed from Henderson Lake, Japanese Gardens and areas in the vicinity.
