Slides recalled at local playgrounds over safety concerns

LETHBRIDGE – A safety recall has forced the city to remove 12 stainless steel slides from four playgrounds in Lethbridge.

The playground impacted are:

  • Dr. Probe Elementary School (5 slides)
  • Galbraith Elementary School (3 slides)
  • Coalbanks Park (3 slides)
  • Mike Mountain Horse Elementary School (1 slide)

The city has informed Lethbridge School District 51 about the recall, and wooden panels have been placed over the openings where the slides were removed, until the replacements can be put in place. Signs have also been placed on the wooden panels to let people know about the recall.

The recall came after the manufacturer, Playworld Systems, noted a concern with faulty welding in the slide seam. They will be replacing the affected slides free of charge.

The city has noted that due to the number of slides being recalled, there is currently no timeline for when the new ones will be put in place.
